Option 1 (Fast but slightly expensive): Flight to Koh Samui and Boat to Koh Tao:
Flying to the island of Koh Samui and then taking a boat to Koh Tao. Tickets can be purchased on-line from Bangkok Airways (www.bangkokair.com). There are daily departures from 6:00 to 19:40. If you would like to arrive on Koh Tao the same day that you leave Bangkok then make sure you take the flight that leaves not later than noon. There are few boats to Koh Tao (8am/12pm/3pm/5pm). Once at the Samui airport tickets can be purchased for the Lomprayah Catamaran or the Seatran Company. Tickets for both companies are cheap and they provide pick-up from the airport to the pier. Option 2 (Cheap and Fast): Flight to Chumphon and Boat to Koh Tao:
Suvarnabhumi Airport or Don Mueang International Airport starts from 25USD, there are daily flights with Nok Air and Happy Air. (www.nokair.com & www.happyair.co.th). Once you arrive in Chumphon you can take your boat to Koh Tao. (www.lomprayah.com) This company will organise transport from Airport to Boat.
Option 3 (Cheap and Fast): Flight to Surat Thani and Boat to Koh Tao:
Don Mueang International Airport, there are daily flights with lots of Airlines. Check this website to find the flight that fits you best. (www.skyscanner.com). Once you arrive in Surat thani airport, you can take your boat to Koh Tao. (www.lomprayah.com) This company will organise transport from Airport to Boat.
Option 4 (Cheapest but slow): Bus to Surat thani and Boat to Koh Tao:
Lompraya have 2 offices located on Kao San Road in Bangkok. Tickets can be booked at the offices or made directly with the company. To make a reservation or to see a schedule, prices, routes and times to and from Koh Tao visit the website. The trip cost appx 25USD. (www.lomprayah.com).This is perfect for backpackers on low budget. However, Blue Immersion recommend you to budget a little extra for the trip and book Option 2 or 3. This bus trip is a 10hours journey.
Option 5 (Cheap and slow): Train to Chumphon and Boat to Koh Tao:
The State Railway of Thailand has daily departures to Chumphon. The best train to take is the 1st class sleeper trains which travel through the night. The express EXP SP 85 train leaves at 19:15 from Bangkok and arrives in Chumphon around 5:00 am. Once is the Chumphon the boat leaves around 7:30 in the morning arriving at 10:30 on Koh Tao. Train reservations can also be booked in the offices on Kao San Road Bangkok or online on this website (www.thairailways.com).
